I do not really like Spring in Hong Kong, the days are always moody and the humidity is very high. But it is no doubt that Spring represents birth, life, growth, vivid and new beginning, it's the beginning of a new year and it's the time to celebrate!
To cope with the festive season, I made this simple painting of cherry blossoms for Spring and Chinese New Year in watercolor. I like the translucent and spontaneous of watercolor. It's easy, fun and enjoyable. For the above piece, simply brush the shape of the five-petal flowers with just water first, pick a little color from the tube with dry brush and apply it on the center of the flower when it's still wet. Let the color goes its way freely and use the brush to help a bit on the final shape if necessary, draw the stamens when it got completely dried. and finally it's always a great idea to complete the piece with nice calligraphy, no matter it's in Chinese or English. VoilĂ !
Beside hanging it in my room, I found it looking quite good on my iPad (it's time to add more joyful mood on daily life).
I use it only on the lock screen of my iPad Air, if you like trying it on yours too, feel free clicking here to download.
Have a lovely Spring and a happy Chinese New Year!
